ABOUT
In the developing world, water is an asset that must be directed and collected to maximise both supply and demand. Atana’s Water Technology team provides the advanced engineering expertise, consulting and resources for water security, access and infrastructure.
Serving the public sector, the private sector and international clients, Water Technology is led by top global water experts. (Our team, sometimes in collaboration with the Climate Resilience team, has helped to address water issues in Southern Africa since 1922.)
Water Technology services include water treatment design, wastewater management, supply and distribution management and consulting, advisory and technology offerings. Our experts have access to global best practices and novel technology to combat water challenges and help our clients to thrive. This way, we help clients to take a holistic approach to water and wastewater management.
Our consulting, advisory and technology focus extends to feasibility studies, master planning, operations and maintenance, and asset management.

As the only road that crosses the summit of the Drakensberg Mountain range, Sani Pass’s steep switchbacks, loose gravel, and sudden weather changes meant local communities faced dangerous journeys to access schools, healthcare, and trade routes.
But after nearly two decades of 24/7 operation, its systems were well past their prime. Power systems, water supply, waste management and heating – all critical to survival in Antarctica – were in dire straits.
Calcium and magnesium build-up caused “hard water,” which began to solidify – and clog pipes.
Many roads and vehicles were in poor condition, and safe, reliable transport remained out of reach for thousands.
Atana supported both projects through project management and Clerk of Works services spanning planning, design, procurement, contract administration and construction monitoring.
Designed and delivered by Atana as the primary engineering consultant, the project combines sustainability, speed, and technical ingenuity.
